ONE OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC’S LEADING BUSINESS GROUPS CREATES A FOUNDATION TO RECOGNISE AND SUPPORT OUTSTANDING PROJECTS IN ASTURIAS
The family of entrepreneurs, originally from Cabranes and Villaviciosa, has reaffirmed their commitment to their homeland by creating an organisation that will support initiatives benefiting the local community.
Pepín Corripio has built a business group employing more than 14,000 people across a wide range of economic sectors, from the media and food to the automotive industry.
Alejandro Vega, Mayor of Villaviciosa, believes that the creation of the Foundation “revives the very best spirit of our emigrants.”
José Luis “Pepín” Corripio, the businessman from Villaviciosa and one of the Dominican Republic’s leading business figures, has fulfilled the promise he made when he was named Favourite Son of Villaviciosa. On that occasion, in August 2022, he announced his intention to establish a foundation that would recognise projects benefiting the community. The organisation was formally established the following August, during the summer stay in Villaviciosa of this Asturian emigrant, born in Arroes ninety years ago, who left Asturias with his parents in 1938 amid the hardships of the Spanish Civil War.
