THE SPANISH ROYAL FAMILY VISITS THE ASTURIAN COMMUNITIES AWARDED THE PRINCIPALITY’S EXEMPLARY VILLAGE PRIZE
Arroes, Pion and Candanal, in the municipality of Villaviciosa, received this prestigious recognition.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia, accompanied by Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, visited Arroes, Pion and Candanal—the three Asturian communities in the municipality of Villaviciosa that were awarded this year’s Exemplary Village of Asturias Award.
The jury highlighted the communities’ success in developing a diversified economy based on local resources, helping to rejuvenate the population, which has grown by 11% since the coronavirus pandemic.
The three villages, located around 45 kilometres from Oviedo, have a combined population of approximately one thousand people. Residents decorated their homes and streets to welcome the Royal Family during their traditional visit to the winning community, held the day after the Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony at Oviedo’s Teatro Campoamor.
