FIRST EDITION OF THE CORRIPIO ALONSO AWARDS OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES ITS FOUR WINNERS
On 20 July, the juries for the first edition of the Corripio Alonso Awards announced the individuals and organisations selected as winners in the four categories of these newly established awards, created to recognise excellence, commitment and contributions to the progress of society.
The Corripio Alonso Foundation announced the decisions of the juries for the first edition of its Awards on 20 July at La Casa de los Hevia in Villaviciosa. The Awards were established with the aim of recognising outstanding careers and initiatives that have made a significant contribution to society in fields as diverse as culture, research, business, communication, social action and sport.
The Foundation would first like to express its most sincere gratitude to all the individuals, organisations and institutions that submitted nominations or put forward candidates in this inaugural edition. The high level of participation and the outstanding quality of the nominations received have helped establish, from the very beginning, an initiative that aspires to become a leading platform for recognising excellence, commitment and contributions to social progress.
Following several weeks of evaluation and deliberation, the four juries—made up of professionals of recognised national and international standing—have agreed to present the 2026 Corripio Alonso Awards to the following individuals and organisations:
CORRIPIO ALONSO AWARD FOR LITERATURE, THE ARTS AND HISTORICAL HERITAGE PRESERVATION: JAVIER DÍAZ FERNÁNDEZ (JAVIER DE ARROES) AND LA BENÉFICA DE PILOÑA
Following the jury’s deliberations, and in view of the exceptional quality and significance of the finalist nominations, the Corripio Alonso Award for Literature, the Arts and Historical Heritage Preservation has been awarded jointly to Javier Díaz Fernández, known as Javier de Arroes, and La Benéfica de Piloña. The two recipients represent complementary initiatives in the preservation and promotion of popular culture. Both have demonstrated a strong commitment to recovering and safeguarding cultural heritage and maintain deep roots in their local communities.
La Benéfica carries out remarkable work in revitalising rural areas through cultural activity, with a significant impact on social cohesion. Javier de Arroes, meanwhile, represents a lifetime devoted to documenting and recording Asturias cultural heritage.
CORRIPIO ALONSO AWARD FOR SOCIAL SCIENCES, COMMUNICATION AND HUMANITIES: FUNDACIÓN FORO JOVELLANOS
The Award recognises the Foundation’s enduring commitment to researching and promoting the humanist thought of the Enlightenment and to fostering civic values. Fundación Foro Jovellanos has built a distinguished reputation that extends well beyond Spanish borders, reaching Europe and the Americas while remaining deeply rooted in Asturias.
CORRIPIO ALONSO AWARD FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP, SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL RESEARCH: DR LUIS FERNÁNDEZ-VEGA SANZ
The Award recognises his outstanding career in entrepreneurship and scientific research, his international reputation, and his enduring connection with Asturias.
CORRIPIO ALONSO AWARD FOR SOCIAL WELFARE AND SPORTS: RAITANA ASSOCIATION FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
The Award recognises Raitana’s longstanding work to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities since 1992. Through the provision of specialised services, the Association promotes the greatest possible degree of independence and supports access to leisure and free-time activities. Its work spans all stages of life, from the age of five through to old age, and serves people with all types of disabilities. Its programmes are designed to promote inclusion within the community and support integration into the workplace, while maintaining a strong commitment to volunteering.
With this Award, the Corripio Alonso Foundation wishes to recognise Raitana Association’s extraordinary contribution to social welfare and to pay tribute to all those—professionals, volunteers, family members and supporting partners—whose daily dedication helps make possible a fairer, more supportive and more humane society.
The Corripio Alonso Awards were created to highlight individuals, organisations and institutions whose careers and achievements represent an example of talent, dedication and commitment to the common good. This inaugural edition received more than fifty nominations, reflecting the excellent response to an initiative created to recognise the positive impact generated in areas that are essential for the development of society.
The evaluation process involved four juries made up of leading figures from the worlds of culture, academia, research, business, communication, historical heritage, social action and sport, ensuring a rigorous, independent and excellence-driven selection process.
The Corripio Alonso Awards ceremony will take place on 2 October at Teatro Riera in Villaviciosa, bringing together representatives from the academic, scientific, business, cultural, sporting and social spheres to celebrate the achievements recognised in this first edition.
With these Awards, the Corripio Alonso Foundation launches a long-term initiative designed to recognise those who, through excellence in their respective fields, contribute to creating a positive impact on society and to building a legacy of knowledge, commitment and service for present and future generations.
