CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The Corripio Alonso Foundation (hereinafter, the “FCA”) is a private non-profit organisation whose objectives include contributing to the recognition, promotion and advancement of the social, scientific, artistic, cultural and humanistic values that form part of our universal heritage, as well as strengthening the existing ties between the municipalities of Villaviciosa, Cabranes and Piloña and all individuals or organisations directly or indirectly connected with them.

To this end, the Foundation has established the Corripio Alonso Foundation Awards, intended to recognise outstanding cultural, artistic, heritage, scientific, technical, social and humanitarian work carried out by individuals, institutions, groups of individuals or organisations at regional, national or international level. The Awards may be granted in the following categories: Arts and Historical Heritage Preservation, Literature, Social Sciences, Communication, Humanities, International Cooperation, Sports, Entrepreneurship, and Scientific and Technical Research.
Individuals or organisations without direct ties to the municipalities of Villaviciosa, Cabranes and Piloña may also be nominated and/or recognised for their outstanding achievements or exceptional merits whenever circumstances deemed appropriate by the Foundation or the relevant jury so warrant.

The Awards will be presented at a formal annual ceremony, preferably held during the final quarter of each year in Villaviciosa (Asturias).

The FCA will publicly announce the call for nominations for the Corripio Alonso Foundation Awards each year.

The Corripio Alonso Foundation Awards will be granted to individuals and/or institutions whose work and achievements have made an extraordinary and exemplary contribution to progress and social well-being in the artistic, literary, scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian fields.

Furthermore, the impact of such work must always be considered in its broadest dimension. This means that the recipients’ contributions must extend to and/or be recognised at regional, national or international level, be supported by a long and distinguished track record and, consequently, leave no doubt as to their suitability for the Award.

1.- CATEGORIES

• CORRIPIO ALONSO AWARD FOR LITERATURE, THE ARTS AND HISTORICAL HERITAGE PRESERVATION: intended to recognise excellence in the creation, development and advancement of literary work in all genres, as well as in architecture, painting, sculpture, music, photography, film, dance, theatre and other artistic disciplines, together with outstanding efforts to preserve and enhance the value and appreciation of historical heritage.
• CORRIPIO ALONSO AWARD FOR SOCIAL SCIENCES, COMMUNICATION AND HUMANITIES: intended to promote business culture and entrepreneurship, particularly among young people, as well as outstanding creative, research and/or communication work in anthropology, political science, demography, law, economics, ethics, philosophy, geography, history, linguistics, education, psychology and sociology, together with the disciplines associated with each of these fields.
• CORRIPIO ALONSO AWARD FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP, SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL RESEARCH: intended to recognise outstanding contributions to the advancement of research, discovery and/or invention in medical sciences, technological sciences, astronomy and astrophysics, Earth and space sciences, life sciences, physics, mathematics and chemistry, as well as in the disciplines associated with each of these fields and in related technical areas.
• CORRIPIO ALONSO AWARD FOR SOCIAL WELFARE AND SPORTS: intended to recognise the achievements of individuals or organisations whose work — through the promotion, development and advancement of social services, social integration, cooperation and social welfare, sports, health and their social dimension — has become an example of the opportunities and benefits that sports and well-being can provide for humanity

2.- AWARD ENDOWMENT

The Corripio Alonso Foundation Awards are endowed, in each category, with:

• A sculpture. (The symbol of the Corripio Alonso Awards);
• A certificate of recognition;
• A commemorative badge;
• A cash prize of €100,000. This amount will be distributed among the four categories, with €25,000 awarded to each category. Where an award in any category is shared, the corresponding amount will be divided equally among the recipients.

3.- NOMINATIONS

Submission of Nominations

Nominations may be submitted by:

• Individuals or legal entities, organizations and institutions of any kind.
• Recipients of Awards in previous editions.
• Members of the juries appointed for the relevant edition.
• Spanish embassies.
• Diplomatic representations in Spain.
• The Advisory Council of the Corripio Alonso Foundation.
• The Corripio Alonso family.
• Other individuals and institutions invited by the Corripio Alonso Foundation.

Eligibility of Nominations

Under no circumstances shall nominations be accepted for the purpose of awarding:

(i) Heads of State and/or Government, or Spanish or foreign officials holding a status equivalent to that of a Head of State or Government;
(ii) Senior institutions of the Spanish State, their members, or senior officials of the Spanish Government;
(iii) Individuals who are Trustees of the Foundation at the time of the nomination, or who have served as Trustees during the three editions immediately preceding the nomination;
(iv) Individuals who are members of a jury at the time of the nomination, or who have served on any jury during the three editions immediately preceding that in which the nomination is submitted.

In all cases, the Corripio Alonso Foundation shall have final authority, without the possibility of appeal, to determine compliance with the requirements established in these Rules and the suitability of the nominations.

Submission Methods and Deadlines

The submission of a nomination requires the completion and signature of the official nomination form, which may be obtained through the Corripio Alonso Foundation’s website. The form, together with any additional supporting information, may be submitted through the following channels:

El plazo de presentación de candidaturas finaliza el, 30 de abril de cada año natural (hasta las 23:59, hora de España, GMT+1). Los galardonados en ediciones anteriores y/o los jurados que presenten candidaturas, según lo establecido en el presente Bases, podrán hacerlo hasta 6 días naturales antes de la fecha de constitución del jurado correspondiente a la categoría para la que envíen las propuestas. Dicha fecha será anunciada a través de la página web de la FCA ((www.fundacioncorripioalonso.com/).

Within 10 working days of receiving a nomination, the FCA will send an acknowledgement of receipt of the documentation submitted to the email address provided by the nominator on the official form.

Supporting Documentation and Endorsements

The official nomination form may be accompanied by any documents, bibliographical material and audiovisual content considered appropriate for the purpose of demonstrating the merits of the proposed nomination.

Supporting statements and endorsements may also be submitted where considered appropriate. The deadline for submitting such endorsements is 30 April of each calendar year, at 23:59 Spanish time (GMT+1).

In the case of nominations submitted by previous Award recipients or jury members, this deadline shall be six calendar days before the date on which the jury for the relevant category is formally constituted. This date will be announced on the FCA website.
Such endorsements may be sent:

1. By email to info@fundacioncorripioalonso.com, indicating the nomination being supported in the subject line.
2. By post to: C/ Uría, 18, 3º izquierda, 33003, Oviedo, Principality of Asturias, Spain.

The Corripio Alonso Foundation will not enter into correspondence regarding the documentation received, nor will such documentation be returned.

4.- ENTREGA DE LOS PREMIOS “FUNDACIÓN CORRIPIO ALONSO”

The Corripio Alonso Foundation Awards ceremony will preferably be held in Villaviciosa (Principality of Asturias, Spain) during the final quarter of each calendar year.

By accepting the Award, recipients undertake to participate in the activities and events organised by the FCA during the days immediately before and after the Awards ceremony.

Recipients who do not attend the Awards ceremony to receive their Award will only receive the certificate of recognition, except in cases of duly justified force majeure.

5.- JURIES

Appointment and Constitution

The juries shall be appointed annually by the Corripio Alonso Foundation, in accordance with the criteria approved by its Board of Trustees.

A Chair and a Secretary shall be appointed from among the members of each jury. Both shall be appointed by the Corripio Alonso Foundation and shall have full speaking and voting rights.

The Chair shall organise and lead the deliberations and voting. The Secretary shall ensure compliance with these Rules.

Each jury shall hold its meetings over two consecutive days. On the second day, the decision shall be announced through the public reading of the official record of the Award, ordinarily by the Chair.

Code of Conduct

Members of the juries shall be subject to the Corripio Alonso Foundation’s Code of Conduct, which reflects the institution’s commitment to ethical behaviour in all matters relating to its activities.

Deliberations

In order to take part in the voting, jury members must be present at all deliberative meetings, from their opening until the final vote.

The list of nominations submitted for the Corripio Alonso Foundation Awards and the jury deliberations shall remain confidential.
Jury members must act at all times with independence, impartiality and rigour.

Voting rights may not be delegated.

Submitted nominations may not be modified in any way.

Votes must always be cast in favour of a candidate, with successive votes being held until the candidates preferred by the majority are selected.

The Award shall be granted by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the Chair shall have the casting vote.
